she's got some nerve...

so i finally figured out why my professionalism professor going off on us for not having read the chapter irked me so much.

it's a valid reason to be upset at students. she asked that we read those two chapters by the next class so we could discuss them. she asked that we make sure that we read them. we didn't read them. i'd be upset too.

but then i realize... it's not so much that she was upset at us. it's that we got a rant on wasting time from her. wasting time. from the professor that didn't bother to learn 1) her own operating system and 2) her own software, and ended up bumbling on her computer in front of us before finally giving up on even trying to use the software. the software that she makes us bring our laptops to class for. even worse, we were sitting right in front of her telling her *exactly* how to run it. she dismissed this as "i don't want to debug this right now." debug? she didn't know how to run a shell script.

"run boom.sh" that didn't work. oh, you have to add a "./"? "./run boom.sh" oh wait, not there. "run ./boom.sh" er... "./boom.sh" wait. not in the right directory? what's the right directory?

even today in class, she was navigating through directories, and she couldn't figure out where she was supposed to go. it's where you put it! she seriously didn't seem to realize the relationship between the file system and the pretty folders on the desktop and in the hard drive.

when she finally got the shell script to run on her machine, she had trouble with the interface. this is software she's responsible for. she oversees the development on it.

regardless of how she wasted our time, she ruined class that day (we were supposed to be using the laptops for all sorts of things that day), and then the very next class, she goes off on us about how we're not getting all we should out of the class because we hadn't done the work. we're also missing out on some stuff because you didn't bother to learn your own software and operating system.

alone, neither issue would have bothered me very much, but together... the combination irks me. which magnifies both of them.

that's all.
