why does the race have to be about race?
oh, right. money.

Time Magazine asks: Is Obama Doing Enough to Get Out the Black Vote?

wtf? this is their supporting evidence?
"The Democrats will spend pennies on black voters, when they spend dollars on the general population..."

-Charles Cherry II

he's saying saying that as if black voters aren't part of the general population...

honestly, this reeks of a smarmy businessman trying to guilt campaigns into buying ads from him, especially since he's admitted that he courted mccain's campaign "for weeks," and ran a retaliation ad when they turned down (i.e. "mccain won't give me money because he doesn't care about you.")

why the hell is time picking this up?

Mercuria,

Time picked it up this story because it's relevant. And I'm not a 'swarmy businessman' trying to 'guilt' anyone into buying anything. We are a 30-year-old media company which owns radio stations & newspapers, some of which target Black listeners/readers.

Bone up on American history. Black newspapers have advocated for Black communities which had no voice for more than 180 years, when newspapers like the New York Times thought Black Americans were not worth mentioning on their pages.

In the ad industry, non-White voters/consumers are considered to be 'ethnic markets/populations', not 'general markets/population.' Campaigns do a cost per voter analysis and they spend more money to woo White voters than anyone else. Radio advertisers will pay more to advertise on country-western stations than on a hip-hop station, though the hip-hoppers are greater consumers. That's a fact.

Obama spent millions with FoxNews, a network that's trying to destroy him, to reach largely White males who are ambivalent toward him. He spent little or nothing with Black-owned/formatted media which could assist him in getting out the Black vote in battleground states like my own Florida, despite raising $635 million to date.

Surely your argument is not that our business should market Obama to our listeners/reader, for free, just because he is Black. He's White, too. Should FoxNews have run his 30-minute infomercial for free because Rupert Murdoch and Obama both have at least one White parent?

The truth is that neither party gives a damn. Dems take Black voters as an entitlement. The GOP thinks they don't have a chance to make their argument to Black voters. Neither cares enough to spend money on advertising directly to Black voters through the media they trust most. That's the point of my comments in the story. Our company make no apologies for trying to make money legally in a capitalist society.

Though race is an artificial sociological construct with no genetic origin (Obama is as White as he is Black, but no one mentions that), it's a factor in America. Even as race becomes less a factor in American life, there are systemic racial disparities as a consequence of 400 years of worldwide White supremacy. America is built on White racial entitlement as reflected in its founding documents and an intergeneration transfer of wealth and property, such as John McCain's family plantation in Mississippi, which was built on the free labor of enslaved Africans. What can/will a President Obama do about that, if anything?

I advise you to grow up. Think and research before you write. Get some market research on ad spending patterns by race before castigating someone you don't know and writing an ill-informed opinion for worldwide consumption on your blog.
